Certificate of Merit®
MTAC’s Certificate of Merit® (CM) program offers a standardized music curriculum to excel in performance, technique, ear training, sight reading, and music theory. It’s available for various instruments and exclusively open to MTAC Teachers.
Here’s what you need to know:
Students undergo an annual evaluation between mid-February and March.
This includes a written theory exam with ear training.
Evaluations can be done at a Regional Testing Facility or online through MTAC’s portal.
Successful students receive an official CM Certificate.
Advanced high school students can progress to Panel and Young Artist Guild Auditions.
Special recognitions like Senior Medallions and State Honors awards are available.
Exceptional students may perform live at MTAC State Convention Recitals.
CM Levels:
Each instrument has a specific 10 or 11-level syllabus.
Teachers guide students through selected repertoire, technique, sight reading, theory, and ear training.
High school students can enter the competitive Panel track.
Enrollment:
Students must be 5 years old or older by September 30.
Teachers apply for students in September, finalizing their repertoire by December 15.
